How to Perform Eid Prayer (Step by Step)
Intention and Opening Takbeer
Make the intention: "I intend to pray the Eid prayer for the sake of Allah." Raise your hands and say "Allahu Akbar" for the opening takbeer to begin the prayer.
Recite Subhanaka
After the opening takbeer, recite the Subhanaka prayer.
First Rakat — 3 Extra Takbeers
After Subhanaka, the imam says "Allahu Akbar" 3 times. With each takbeer, raise your hands to your ears and let them drop to your sides. After the third takbeer, fold your hands.
Recite Fatiha and a Surah
The imam recites Surah al-Fatiha followed by another surah. Then bow for ruku and prostrate for sujud as in regular prayer. The first rakat is complete.
Second Rakat — Standing
Stand up for the second rakat. The imam first recites Fatiha and a surah.
Second Rakat — 3 Extra Takbeers
After the surah, the imam says "Allahu Akbar" 3 times. With each takbeer, raise and lower your hands. After the third takbeer, go directly into ruku (do not fold hands).
Prayer is Completed
After ruku and sujud, sit and recite Ettehiyyatu, Allahumma Salli, Allahumma Barik and Rabbana prayers. Give salam to complete the prayer.
Listen to the Khutbah
In Eid prayer, the khutbah is delivered after the prayer (unlike Friday prayer). Listening to the khutbah is sunnah.
